Wind Energy
This renewable energy source has unlimited energy generating potential. It is the fastest growing segment of the renewable energy market in recent years. Wind turbines were first developed in 1891. Wind power does not produce air emissions, generate solid waste, or use water.
Denmark is one of the world leaders in wind energy production. Wind farms now generate 20 percent of Denmark's total electrical energy.
Opponents of wind energy cite noise, visual impact on the area, potential danger to birds from the spinning turbine blades, and the impact of service roads and transmission lines.
In the future, as the cost of wind energy declines, the option of electrolyzing water to produce hydrogen becomes more feasible. This would offer a way of both storing wind energy and transporting it via pipelines.
