2007 ENERGY TOUR: Day 27 July 21, 2007Today was the Shoreline Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair. This fair was started by a couple of people from Shoreline who wanted to put solar panels on a school near their home. This is the fourth annual fair and it has steadily grown from the opening year of less than thirty exhibitors to this year with almost one hundred. They had a lot of interesting exhibitors of products and services such as home solar energy systems, recycled goods, organic food, electric and hybrid vehicles, sustainable building products, advocacy groups, and a solar powered public transportation prototype called the JPOD. They also had a great program for kids to help them learn about energy and sustainable living. There were stations throughout the fair that the kids could visit and do small projects to learn more about energy and sustainability. After completing all of the stations, the kids each received a solar project kit. We all had a great time and learned a lot. We got to meet and visit with Maryn Wynne, one of the founders of the Shoreline Solar Project, and the Shoreline Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair. She was one of the people who wanted to put solar a solar installation on the nearby school. After a year of much hard work their dream of solar power came true and the school installed solar panels. See this installation and the power it generates at www.seattle.gov/light/green/greenpower/accomplishments/meridian.asp . Their dream and the renewable energy fair they created has grown into the largest renewable energy fair in the Puget Sound area. We finished our visit in Seattle with a stop at a Chevron station that sells B100. The biodiesel tank was in the bed of a truck with a pump attached. With a full tank of biodiesel we are ready to head for home. |
