2007 ENERGY TOUR: Day 21 July 15, 2007

2007 Energy Tour

Today we relaxed a bit after pushing really hard all last week. We stayed in Newark, New York and enjoyed the day visiting, hiking, and enjoying the area, we also went to Niagara Falls which was a great experience for all of us. We left for Michigan via Canada and continued our travels west. Interestingly, when we searched the web for biodiesel retailers in Canada we came across articles that claimed that no biodiesel was available commercially in Canada. See more information on Day 23. Fortunately we have enough fuel to make it to Michigan.

We have continued our research into the Midwestern and Eastern United states low blend biodiesel. It is more widely available than in the west, but much lower blends. Some say it is because of the cold climate. Biodiesel has a higher temperature gel point than petro-diesel so it is often blended to overcome this weakness. Other say it is because of engine warranties not being honored if biodiesel is used. Some companies may not, but Cummins, the largest diesel engine maker in the USA, still honors warranties with biodiesel usage. Still others claim that starting with low blends will get the public used to biodiesel and the blends will eventually contain a large percentage of biodiesel. We would like to hear your thoughts on this issue. Please contact us or participate in the forum to let us know.
