2007 ENERGY TOUR: Day 18 July 12, 2007

Today we spent the day in the Washington DC area. We arrived very early this morning (around 2 am) and did a night time tour of the downtown DC area. The buildings and monuments were very beautiful all lit up, and the traffic was great! Then this morning the rain finally let up so we could repair the wrap on the Energy Aware Express where we had the accident damage from Day 3.

After that we went to see the main attractions: the White House, the War Memorials, the Washington Monument, and other buildings, memorials, and monuments. It was very fun and actually the first time for all of us to visit our nation's capital.
We felt right at home as we drove down the street noticed on some of the light posts there were flags from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (www.aaas.org) that were blue with a sunflower on them. The Energy Aware Express looked like it matched!

We only got the briefest taste of what a full tour of Washington DC would be like, we were almost running from site to site to try to fit as much in as possible. We will be back at some point for a longer time to see and experience more.

Tonight we headed north toward Connecticut. Biodiesel is becoming increasingly hard to find, in fact the state of New Jersey has no biodiesel for sale according to biodiesel.org. We will continue our search for biodiesel in Eastern New York and Connecticut.
