2007 ENERGY TOUR: Day 4 June 28, 2007This morning when we looked under the RV there was a large puddle of fuel. Fuel leaks are not an uncommon problem for vehicles and are a threat for the environment. It is important that we start running our vehicles with non-toxic, biodegradable, and safe fuels. Even many biodiesel fuels are blends of biodiesel and petro-diesel. There are many reasons for this, the major one being cost. Wouldn't it be great if every fueling station across the country sold B100 (pure biodiesel) and E100 (pure ethanol)? Then when you have the unfortunate experience of springing a fuel leak in your vehicle at least there wouldn't be any environmental damage done. Plus, using plant material from the USA would make us more energy independent. This fuel leak in the Energy Aware Express has been a valuable lesson to us in the importance of promoting, using, and helping create demand for pure bio-fuels and alternative energy vehicles. Thanks to the great service from the people at Karl's Diesel Service in Ogden, Utah, we were fortunate to have the problem solved so we can leave in the morning. The people at Ray Citte RV in Roy, Utah have been great, helping us out and letting us stay on their lot. One of the most unfortunate things resulting from this delay is that we had to miss our appointment for a tour of the NREL facility today. This was something we were really looking forward to. We will have go at a later date. Signing off for today with hope for a fabulous and energetic tomorrow! ![]() P.S. The fuel leak was not caused by the use of biodiesel. The leak was due to a microscopic crack in a high pressure 100% metal fuel line, but due to the pressure in the line, it sprayed fuel like a showerhead. |
