The Energy Aware Express and Jenkins family visit a Simplot Corporate Offices in Boise, Idaho

We are very appreciative of our sponsors and look for every opportunity to thank them for their support and commitment to renewable energy. We recently brought the Energy Aware Express to the Simplot Corporate Headquarters in downtown Boise and a few dozen curious Simplot employees toured the motor home during the hour we were parked there.

A common question was, "Is the bus modified in any way?" Aside from the giant sunflowers on the side, that's the beauty of the diesel engine and of biodiesel. The engine needed no changes or modifications and we could burn pure biodiesel as well as pure petrodiesel, except biodiesel naturally lubricates the engine and pollutes much less than petrodiesel.

Here are some highlights of the tour:

Simplot employees and EAO staff chat inside the Energy Aware Express. Simplot uses around 200 million pounds of frying oil a year. This oil is currently sold for cattle feed but the company is looking at the possibility of processing it into biodiesel for its trucks. Simplot also sells agricultural products to farmers, including those who grow fuel crops, and is interested in reaching them.
